memories

 The webmaster, north Bucks:

"The moments that Friars dreamt of. Having spent time queuing in the cattle market six weeks previously, the moment came around when what was then starting to become one of the world’s biggest bands took to the boards at Aylesbury. Promoting the Duke album they stormed through classics from the previous 10 years. Phil Collins was on good form too. David Stopps presented the band with the Talent Winners Cup and a dossier/file of the names of all those who had queued up in the cattle market. So one of them has my name somewhere…..A great gig."

Original local advert - as it says, the most in demand concert at that time and second ever at Friars ever as it turned out

Presenting the "Talent Winners Cup" - a very happy David Stopps (r) with Mike Rutherford (l) and Phil Collins (centre). Tony Banks is in the background. See story below.

what happened next
Genesis were still filling stadiums until 1992. Collins officially left in 1995, with him enjoying huge solo success alongside his Genesis commitments. Banks and Rutherford soldiered on with Ray Wilson from Stiltskin, but after one album called it a day. The core trio reunited in 2007 and proved they could still fill stadiums. Rumours still persist that a reunion with Hackett and Gabriel is on the cards (having not been able to do it in 2007) but looking unlikely due to permanent injury to Collins rendering him unable to drum following the 2007 tour

odds and trivia
On the afternoon of the gig after the gear had been set up, Tony Banks was left none too pleased that his programmed keyboard sounds had for some reason gone west and had to program on the fly. We never noticed.
